Winter "Camping" 2014

 For all our fellow winter camping buddies back in Minnesota, this blog is in honor of you.  

We, I guess I should say "I" chickened out this year and instead of winter camping in a tent, we hiked to a cabin this year. Not quite enough snow to ski in like we did last year in Minnesota.  This is at the Eagle River Nature Center..which may look familiar from a recent blog post when we took a hike here. 

 The cabin was off the public hiking trail a bit which made it feel more secluded. 

 It was a chilly walk to the cabin, and when we walked in the thermometer read 2 degrees.  And yes, it felt like 2 degrees.  Once the fire got started it rose about 2 degrees every 10 minutes or so that we looked at the thermometer so it took some time for us to feel comfortable enough to do much of anything. Once we got settled we enjoyed some good brats over the fire and got some good reading in by headlamp.  Pete got out of bed a couple times during the night to restock the fire.  We were thankful for the abundance of wood supplied. 

 The hike out.  We saw lots of moose tracks, pretty close to our cabin, but never got to see the moose.  We were reading in the cabin journal entries from the summer and it was cool to see how many people saw lots of wildlife during their stay there.
