Pete was able to make it to the Idiarod "fake" start in Anchorage this year. The actual start takes place in Willow about an hour north of Anchorage.
It apparently was a rough ride this year....
A warmer than average winter had left the trails dry in several spots, causing lots of injuries and lots of people dropping out part way through the race. One racer even broke his ankle after sledding on gravel for a period of time.
The winner this year was an underdog after the predicted winner was about an hour ahead of the others had to stop as his dogs wouldn't go any further in the 40 mph wind.
